Red Sea Global leads community-driven mangrove planting initiative to celebrate International Mangrove Day
- The event aims to restore coastal ecosystems and launch RSG’s official volunteering program
Riyadh, 29 July 2025: Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and AMAALA, hosted a large-scale mangrove planting initiative, reinforcing its global leadership in ecosystem restoration and community-based environmental action.
Held at Mangrove Park, near the iconic Shura Bridge at The Red Sea destination, the event brought together over 100 volunteers from the local community and hospitality sector. Employees from The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Six Senses Southern Dunes, Desert Rock and Shebara joined hands with Green Umluj to transplant mangrove seedlings into the park’s thriving coastal habitat. The event was also attended by representatives from the National Center For Vegetation Cover, one of RSG’s valued partners in achieving the mutual goals of mangrove restoration and enhancement.
“Mangroves are one of the planet’s most powerful carbon sinks, and their protection is central to our environmental mission. But what makes this moment special is the power of people: the volunteers, the partners, and the community members, who are now stewards of the very ecosystems they helped restore.”
This event also celebrated the official launch of RSG’s Volunteering Program, a strategic initiative designed to empower local communities, promote environmental stewardship, and create avenues for skilled and professional volunteering. The program aims to activate community engagement in regenerative projects, build local capacity and pride in both environmental and social efforts, and foster meaningful partnerships with NGOs and institutions. It directly supports Vision 2030, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and RSG’s broader People and Planet strategy.
The volunteering initiative was activated through Jewar App, Red Sea Global’s two-way communication app designed to foster meaningful engagement with local communities across The Red Sea destination. As part of the campaign, a call for participation was issued with more than 30 members of the local community attending the event. In addition users were invited to take part in a Mangrove Trivia game. The activity aimed to raise environmental awareness while encouraging community involvement.
These programs are part of ‘From People to Planet’, RSG’s broader platform for community engagement and nature-based action, which invites residents, partners, and visitors to participate in hands-on regenerative projects across the company’s destinations.
Achieving a 99% seedling survival rate thanks to advanced site selection and planting techniques, RSG’s mangrove program is setting a global benchmark in coastal habitat restoration.
